The Summary
Grace will soon reach 90 years old. She doesn't want celebrations, gifts, or fuss. She only wants to put an end to the family conflict that has broken her heart for years.
But in order to achieve that, she needs to track down her daughter Alys, who is the only one who can help make things right.
And if she does locate her, she runs the risk of betraying her granddaughter Elin. who is much less tolerant of the past's wrongs, lies, and secrets. Beca, Grace's great-granddaughter, is unaware of all of these concerns since she is preoccupied with navigating the highs and lows of adolescence and guarding her own secrets.
Every family experiences issues. And the majority of them are solved. Grace's issue, though, dates back thirty years. She also lacks the benefit of time.
Is it now too late for her to reconcile? Or is a resolution still possible?
My Review
What a wonderful, consoling, and deeply moving novel. A story of sadness, love, and forgiveness; a story of the relationship between a mother and daughter. The reader learns about the history of this family, including the trauma and grief that have befallen them.
The majority of the action takes place in the present, but there are a few flashback scenes that take place at various points during the preceding 70 years. These specifics help to clarify how the ties between the four women were created.
The book is extremely well written, and the characters are well-developed. I was hooked after reading the first page. The dialogue seems very natural.
However, the plot moves a little slowly because it is split among numerous points of view. The several POVs and ongoing flashbacks could make it quite challenging to follow along. Although it seems exciting enough, not everyone thought so.
Nevertheless, the writing of this author is still worthwhile to read!
My ratings score:
★★★★★ Fantastic! Made me go through a lot of emotions & the entire book is incredibly beautifully done!
★★★★ Memorable! Despite its shortcomings, this book was incredible and taught us a lot.
★★★ Good work! Nothing particularly remarkable, but still nice.
★★ Meh... Mediocre with great room for improvement.
★ Extremely Poor.
