The Summary

Every morning, Rachel rides the same commuter train. She is aware that it will consistently wait at the same signal in front of a row of backyard gardens. Even the residents of one of the houses have begun to give her the impression that she knows them. She addresses them as "Jess and Jason." She believes that their life is ideal. If only Rachel could experience such joy. Then she notices a startling sight. The train won't move on for another minute, but that's ample time. Everything has changed now. Now Rachel has the opportunity to actively participate in the lives she has previously merely observed. They will now see that she is so much more than simply the girl on the train.

My Review

This book definitely piqued my interest. I was uneasy about it. I was captivated as soon as I turned to their first page. There were times when I forgot that these people were regular people and thought they were all complete nuts. How many characters I've implicated as suspects in this book is beyond your comprehension.

From the viewpoints of the three women who are involved in the narrative Rachel, Megan, and Tom's new wife Anna the story is told. It's challenging to portray all three of these ladies as both sympathetic and repellent at once.

The majority of the characters in this book are wholly evil, but that was to be expected, so overall, this story is a masterwork of character development. Not just the plot, but also the characters in this book contributed to its depressing atmosphere. As a result, every time you read from the perspective of one of the three protagonists, you feel incredibly foreboding.

The plot itself gradually picks up steam and becomes quite captivating. When the action picks up, it becomes genuinely captivating and thrilling, and you won't be able to stop wondering what actually happened.

The writing in this book was superb; it was easy to read yet highly vivid, allowing the reader to feel the emotions of the characters right alongside them. Simply outstanding descriptive writing.

Despite the rather disappointing finish, I found this to be a fascinating read and a satisfying psychological thriller overall.
