My Review
This book's setting was among the spookiest ever! What a weird, awful book!
All of the characters in this novel were ill. Even now, I'm unsure of my thoughts. I found all of the characters unpleasant, especially at the conclusion. But bear in mind that this is a domestic thriller chock full of shocks, so you should unquestionably expect characters in this kind of genre. To enjoy a good thriller, one need not care for the characters.
From the perspectives of a number of characters, including Adam and Amelia, the story is told. The story alternates between present events, scenes from the Scotland trip, and letters addressed on each marriage anniversary (flashback). Although there seemed to be a lot going on and the story progressed rapidly, there were various narrative lines that seemed to be left hanging, so I constantly wondered what the point of many of the surprise information and people was.
Personally, I thought the epiphany that came after the information was delivered was just great. You are aware that something is amiss, but you cannot put your finger on what. Another cool detail is Adam's face blindness. Secondly, it is a happy type of surprise when everything is eventually made plain. I was very impacted by that.
Overall, the ambiance was fantastic. It was quite ominous and spooky. Further than concept of an unreliable narrator, the author went above and beyond. The book's setting in the Scottish Highlands added just the right amount of fright.
Although I thought the ending was still fantastic, I believe it could have been even better if other unresolved concerns had been handled.
You shouldn't miss this book if you like a thrilling, emotional adventure!
