The Summary
Minnie Cooper is certain of two things: Quinn Hamilton, a guy she has never met, is to blame for her bad luck and that she was born on the first day of the New Year. Just after midnight on New Year's Day, their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital, but Quinn received the cash award and was given the name Minnie was supposed to have. With such bad luck, it's no surprise that each of her birthdays has been even worse than the last.
On the night of their shared thirty-first birthday, Minnie bumps into Quinn at a New Year's party unexpectedly, and she only sees further proof that his good luck has persisted. The attractive, endearing business owner appears to have it all, whilst Minnie is in danger of losing both her house and her pie-making business. But why do Quinn and Minnie keep running into one other if they come from different worlds? And why do they both seem to crave more after each tense encounter?
My Review
I was drawn in by This Time Next Year's alluring cover. But possibly the thing I appreciated the most about it was that, which was unfortunate. This was only a passable read for me. It does not stand out or stick out in a memorable way.
It's true that this was a rom-com-style book that was lighthearted, entertaining, and fun. However, I didn't find it to be as as enjoyable as I had anticipated. The fact that each chapter concentrated on a different New Year in the lives of the main characters across time made me lose interest in the book rapidly despite my desire to admire it. At one point, the plot even grew a little hazy and difficult to follow.
Of course This Time Next Year is a love story, but it's also about friendship, family, and, most importantly, loving yourself. It's not only about romantic love, however.
This Time Next Year was a lot of fun, despite being mostly predictable and clichéd, just not to my taste.
My ratings score:
★★★★★ Fantastic! Made me go through a lot of emotions & the entire book is incredibly beautifully done!
★★★★ Memorable! Despite its shortcomings, this book was incredible and taught us a lot.
★★★ Good work! Nothing particularly remarkable, but still nice.
★★ Meh... Mediocre with great room for improvement.
★ Extremely Poor.
