The Summary

In 1940, San Francisco is a refuge for the eccentric. The Magic City of the World's Fair, which is located on an island made of artifice and illusion, the Forbidden City of Chinatown, which is a separate, alien world with exotic cuisine and nightclubs that offer "authentic" experiences straight from the pulps, and the Twilight World of Forbidden Love, where outcasts from mainstream society can meet, are all visited by tourists.

Six women discover that their lives are intertwined with one another and the city they call home. On the edges of magic, science, and the arts, they find love and danger.

My Review

How did I only learn about this book now?

The fantastic fantasy in this lovely book gives everything the feel of a story. I honestly had no idea that this novel was written under the LGBT category, but the author handled it excellently given how challenging the 1940s were.

I wish this book had a sequel because I think it has a lot more to offer and is another magic fantasy that ought to be known about. The development is also excellent.

For anyone seeking a romantic story that is a little different from the norm, this is such a short and simple read.

My ratings score:

★★★★★ Fantastic! Made me go through a lot of emotions & the entire book is incredibly beautifully done!

★ Memorable! Despite its shortcomings, this book was incredible and taught us a lot.

★ Good work! Nothing particularly remarkable, but still nice.

★ Meh... Mediocre with great room for improvement.

★ Extremely Poor.
