The Summary

The memory of the day her family was shattered by Shawnee raiders haunts Morrow Little to this day. She must now make challenging decisions regarding her future because she is almost an adult and her father is sick. She competes for the attention of a number of men, from the undesirable to the inconceivable, yet she unexplainably finds herself drawn to a forbidden love that both frightens and intrigues her. Can she pursue a life with him without betraying the memory of her deceased loved ones and raising suspicion from her friends? Or should she wed a man she doesn't adore in order to ensure her own misery?

As it transports readers from a Kentucky fort through the wide wilderness to the west in search of true love, this sweeping narrative of passion and forgiveness will engulf readers.

My Review

I truly like another novel by Laura Frantz.

One of my favorite things about Frantz's writing is how she can immerse readers in the story and give them a taste of colonial America with the help of the lovely and captivating language and imagery I've grown to admire in her novels. Her historical fiction is one of my favorites since it captures the era so well.

Morrow, the main character, is described as having a tragic past. I genuinely feel bad for her characters and can understand how much fear, pain, and anxiety they experience, which makes it initially difficult to like them. Fortunately, she started to change after meeting Red Shirt.

Red Shirt is a sweet, gentle man who tries not to terrify her but instead observes, keeps an eye on, and gets to know her so that she won't be terrified of the world ever again. I adore the way he demonstrated to Morrow that there is more to seeing than meets the eye.

The message that love is all about forgiving, moving on, and starting a fresh next chapter in life is definitely being sent to me by this couple's romance. Sometimes the only thing we can do to forget the hurt is to leave everyone behind and embark on a new adventure.
