The Summary

Despite having a pacemaker implanted, fearless Ali sets her eyes on returning to the diamond. However, her overprotective father throws a curveball when he recruits her old foe to keep her out of the game.

Ali Benton, 17, is fortunate to be alive after a daredevil move on the baseball field causes a four-minute heart arrest. Now that she has a second opportunity, she intends to make the most of it, and she won't allow a bothersome pacemaker or her hovering father stand in her way.

Max Delaney has his entire day planned out between serving as the president of numerous school groups and working two jobs to assist his single mother with the household expenses. Ali, his archenemy from boyhood, is not mentioned in any of them. But his plans are derailed when her overbearing father offers him money to watch over her and keep her away from baseball.

Max, the arrogant know-it-all, is standing by Ali like Krazy Glue, and Max can hardly stand the obstinate Ali. Ali doesn't understand why. But as opposites attract, fighting often turns into kissing. The secrets they have been harboring threaten to separate them even as sparks erupt. When Max finds out that Ali has been playing ball and putting herself in danger covertly, he is unsure of how to notify her father. He will lose her trust if he gossips. If he doesn't, he could end up breaking her heart in several different ways.

My Review

The YA sport romance between foes and lovers. It has a story for teens, and I'd say it's extremely nice. Due to its engaging plot, this novel has a lot to offer.

Ali, a typical sports girl with a heart condition who adores baseball, and Max, a typical intellectual nerd, are the subjects of the story. I appreciate how Ali in this story has a solid foundation, even though she struggles with her heart, and how Max is quiet and gentle, thus the two of them are a perfect combination.

There wasn't a lot of drama, but I really like how this tale developed. Everyone begins off acting childish until they finally realize all their errors and get more mature knowledge. I also appreciate that parents are actively involved and that we see everyone's perspective.

The book's general blandness is the sole drawback, in my opinion. I'm not sure if it's because the plot is intended to be peaceful or if I don't like the book. Although the tempo is excellent, I occasionally find some of the dialogue to be tedious.

Overall, I will still highly recommend this book, but I would advise reading it when you are more relaxed and looking for a quick read.
